Dr Gray joined the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute as the Chief Scientific Officer in 2022 and in May 2023, took on the role of Director. He is interested in the metabolic, lipidomic, and molecular pathways involved in the progression of malignant and benign tumours. He and his team are investigating the tumour micro-environment metabolism and how these pathways may help identify potential drugs, in particular, repurposed drugs, to treat diseases such as glioblastoma, meningioma, infantile haemangioma, and keloid scarring.

Clint is keen to collaborate with universities and other institutions to help the integration of science researchers in Wellington and New Zealand. We are also looking to expand the current cadre of PhD students and develop the institute into a centre of excellence for research and learning. He is supervising a number of graduate students and is always interested in hearing from potential Honours, MSc, and PhD students. Please contact him directly if you are interested in studying for a PhD, MSc, or summer studentship with us.

Clint graduated with a degree in biomedical sciences (Hons) and has a PhD in translational physiology from the University of Nottingham, UK. He worked as a research fellow at the University of Auckland, and for a further five years as a senior research fellow in pediatrics and child health at the University of Otago. His research interests involved investigating the effects of maternal diet on the uterine environment, blastocyst development, preterm birth, and offspring predisposition to disease.

Over the past 10 years, Clint has published over 56 research articles and secured nearly $4 million in research funding. He hopes to attract national and international funding to the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute, with help from his extensive network of collaborators around the world, and strengthen the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute’s position as a nationally and internationally recognised research institute.
