Sarah Hogan– Iron woman’s challenge is supporting glioblastoma research

Join Sarah in rising to the challenge of a glioblastoma diagnosis in her family.

I am a New Zealander but have lived in Australia for over a decade working as an interior designer. My goal this year is to fundraise for a cause close to my heart by supporting glioblastoma research in Wellington, New Zealand, at the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute.

During the lockdown in 2020, Dad was diagnosed with High-Grade glioblastoma (a fast-growing and aggressive malignant brain tumour). Not being able to get back to New Zealand was heartbreaking for me. Still, Dad’s infectious positivity and ability to see the light in every situation have inspired me to make a difference and show love from afar.

Sarah had initially hoped to raise $10,000 by completing the 2022 Ironman in Port Macquarie alongside my fellow Iron Women Emma and Renee and donate this to the Phase II glioblastoma trials being undertaken by the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute. They need significant monies to commence this pioneering research, so if my fundraiser inspires you to support them and, hopefully, through their research, help find new ways to treat people like my Dad, then it will motivate me even more in my challenge. Following her campaign, Sarah managed to raise $15,320 (https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/gilliesmcindoeresearch) , beating their target by 50% !!!
