Andrea Skews

In May 2021, Andrea Skews attended a Wellington Club Podium series – a presentation by Dr Swee Tan about the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute’s cancer research and clinical trials. Compelled to do what she could to support the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute’s mission to start a glioblastoma phase II trial and the other cancers, Andrea became a Gillies McIndoe Research Institute Ambassador and will donate a generous percentage of her real estate commissions to the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute on an ongoing basis.

Afterward Andrea said, “I was really blown away by Dr Tan’s talk and the simple but elegant approach to treating cancer that the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute is trialling. I think we have all come to believe that every cancer is so different – but here is an approach that, subject to further investigation, could work for so many cancer types. I think the veil on cancer research and treatment needs to be lifted, and hope to those affected needs to be reinstated. My mantra is “you are still winning if you are still trying!”

Andrea’s previous work experience was in IT, medical phlebotomy at the NZ Blood Service and medical administrative positions. As well as being a busy real estate agent, Andrea devotes time to her Karori community. She is Chair of the Residents’ Association and a Board member of the Karori Rotary Club.
