Introducing New GMRI Board Member, Dr Virginia Hope
New GMRI Board member, Dr Virginia Hope, has just been made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to health.
The Queen’s Birthday honour recipient was invited to join the board of the GMRI earlier this year as a representative of the Hutt Valley DHB and Capital & Coast DHB.
“Virginia is a well-respected practicing public health physician with wide research experience. As Chair of the HVDHB and CCDHB she has drawn on her extensive health sector experience. Previously Virginia was an elected member of the Auckland DHB and Deputy Chair of the Ministerial Review Group and the National Health Board. Her formal qualifications are very impressive, comprising BHB, MBChB, Dip Comm H, MPhil (Hons), FAFPHM, FNZCPHM and FRACMA,” says GMRI Board Chair, Paul Baines.
Dr Hope says she is thrilled to join the GMRI Board.
“The GMRI grew from work done at the HVDHB. We recognise that the work that has been done has contributed to massive improvements in the quality and outcomes of care that can be given to people with strawberry birthmarks and we very much want to see this work continue and develop on the new site at CCDHB,” says Dr Hope.
Dr Hope says she has high hopes for what the GMRI can ultimately achieve.
“The work currently under way has potential implications for health more widely, including treatment of a range of cancers.
“It would be wonderful to see this come to pass and to be put into practice.”
