Dr Johnson is a Consultant Histopathologist and the Clinical Head of Department of Anatomic Pathology at Hutt Hospital, providing a mixed secondary and tertiary histopathology service for the departments of General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Gastroenterology, Respiratory Medicine, Dental Surgery, Wellington Regional Plastic, Maxillofacial & Burns Unit including Regional Head and Neck Surgery, together with the Regional Breast Care Unit and the Regional Rheumatology Service.

Dr Johnson graduated from the University of Otago with a BSc in Microbiology and an MBChB in 1990 and 1994 respectively. He worked for eight years in clinical medicine at primary, secondary and tertiary level before embarking on specialist training in anatomic pathology with the Royal Australasian College of Pathologists, which he completed in 2008.
Dr Johnson’s interests include skin cancer, gastrointestinal and neoplastic gynaecological pathology, as well as non-haematological molecular oncology. He is also responsible for the hospital (non-coronial) post-mortem service for Hutt and Wellington Hospitals.
